Workshop descriptions:

Let’s Talk about Sex . . . and Music

Our musical heroes speak to the emotional complexities of love, sex and relationships. Our favorite singers, songwriters, and bands tell us what it’s really like to love, lust, and be in a relationship (or not). What can we learn from them about sex and sexuality and how best to work with our clients around these issues? We will analyze the socio-cultural messages about sex embedded in music. Through music, music videos, interactive activities and case review you will increase your knowledge about the diversity of human sexuality, examine transference-counter transference issues, and expand your repertoire for addressing sexuality with adolescents, adults, couples and groups.

Adolescent Sexuality: The Therapist’s Countertransference & Dynamic Approaches

Countertransference reactions can’t be avoided, especially regarding adolescent sexuality. In this interactive workshop, participants will examine their reactions to the sexual expression of today’s teenagers and examine related clinical issues. They will explore their own sexual upbringing and the social, cultural, ethnic and religious messages adolescents today receive. Participants will increase their understanding of adolescent psychosexual development and learn strategies for intervening with adolescents and their parents. An increased awareness of one’s possible countertransference reactions will enable the clinician to increase their effectiveness discussing this sensitive topic with adolescents.
